Lost Ark Distilling Company draws inspiration from Maryland’s earliest settlers, who enlisted whatever they could find locally to make, well, everything. The team at the distillery does the same thing. They start crafting each spirit from craft, using local ingredients whenever possible, and base each line of spirits on a different aspect of Maryland’s history.
For instance, the Lady Anne white rum. It’s named for Lady Anne Arundel, wife of Baron Baltimore Cecil Calvert and member of the family who footed the bill for Maryland’s colony charter in 1632. Then there’s the Trailblazer straight bourbon whiskey, named for the earliest settlers sent to explore the new land and prepare the way for others. While Lost Ark specializes mostly in different types of small-batch rums, the bourbon and a caramel cream liqueur add a little variety to their lineup. The website hosts a roster of recipes for anyone who wants to become their own bartender using Lost Ark liquors. If you want to sample some, have the liquor shipped or pick it up at the distillery on a Friday or Saturday afternoon.
