It’s the Merganser Pond Trail, and it can be your hidden gem amidst this massive wildlife refuge. The pond is a tiny spec just off the Wildlife Loop South, and the trail is a short 2,000 foot trek around the wooded area. There are great wildlife viewing areas on two sides of the pond, but for the full experience, make the walk around the tree line of the wooded path. There you’ll see rare birds and native trees, plus the utter peacefulness that only an area this secluded can provide.
